Everyone needs a break from time-to-time
Not everyone understands how demanding caring for a loved one can be, whether on an informal, part-time or full-time basis. Everyone needs a break from time-to-time and respite care offers this both to carers and those in need of quality care and attention.
Respite care enables home based carers the opportunity to take scheduled holidays or breaks throughout the year. This may be for a few days or a few weeks. Carers can relax with peace of mind knowing that their relative or patient is in a safe and homely environment with 24-hour care available.
At Oakleigh, the services we provide have grown steadily over years. They range from residential and pre independant living, to short breaks in purpose built facilities for adults with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum conditions or other complex health and medical needs.
The people who come to stay with us particularly enjoy the change of scenery, the variety of activities available, the chance to meet new people and the sheer comfort of our home environment away from home. Meanwhile, carers can take time out with the added reassurance that their loved ones are receiving the very best care and attention from our friendly, welcoming and highly trained staff.
Our aim is to help those who come to live with us, however short their stay, to remain in control of their own lives, as far as possible, and enable them to maintain their independence.
Therefore a persons personal preferences and care needs are incorporated into their individual care package to ensure continuity of care.
Person centred care is the term for this. Our philosophy is simple - our residents should still feel as if they are living at home with additional support and care.
Emergency Respite/Short Stay - when the normal package of care in a persons usual place of care breaks down either because the carer becomes ill or a crisis point is reached.
